Byte are proud to bring you a series of events which are more interactive giving you the chance to have your most pertinent questions answered. To Byte it is simple 'good service is good business'.
Robert Roshan introduced Byte and our commitment to our customers and our experience within infrastructure; including our Managed and Support Services and Software Development Solutions within Web and Portal.
Adam Beavis from VMware discussed VMware World Las Vegas, 2008 and the new branding of VMware by adding a 'v' to their product lines. Adam also discussed VI3, Vmotion, SVM (Storage Vmotion which allows files to be transferred from one storage facility to another) and DRS (Dynamic Resource Scheduling, looking at infrastructure as a pool of resources). Further to this Adam talked of High Availability and the upcoming product Continuous Availability. When this is available you will hear it first from Byte. Then Adam discussed Distributed Power Management, Update Manager, VDI and Site Recovery Manager.
Chris Troiani from EMC also discussed VMware World Las Vegas 2008 from an EMC perspective and their upcoming products. Following this Chris provided information showing the difference in market share between EMC (being the number 1 (one)) and other vendors IBM, Hewlett-Packard and Hitachi. He also explained that EMC is the number one choice of storage for virtualisation server environments due to using similar coding and look and feel to VMware. Chris discussed the path to success through EMC and that customers should be aware of the life cycle transition from light to heavy use with consideration of Tier 1 applications and how to make this transition easier. Furthermore attendees were informed about Clarion CX4, Site Recovery Manager, and the EMC Management Suite. Following this Chris discussed Avamar and how it effectively operates de-duplication. Avamar according to Chris on recent initial implementations has averaged an 80% reduction in the backup’s of data moved to memory, meaning it takes far less time to backup.
